We all have heard of a couple different kinds of connection methods, but which one is better and how does it work? Why should you care?
Well, our 360Penguin has to make a connection to your smart device so you can take a look at what your camera sees and so you can share it with the world. While we were in development, we had to figure out the best way to connect the two devices and still deliver the best possible quality to you and keep the price at a fair selling point.
The battle came down to Bluetooth versus what’s called Wi-Fi Direct. Both are great and have their place. We went with the Wi-Fi Direct option. There were several reasons for that, but here’s a bit about what kind of advantage that gives you.
What Does Wi-Fi Direct Do for ME?
Wi-Fi Direct delivers a connection from device to device without the need to use an access point. In simple terms, that means you don’t have to have connection to a Wi-Fi router to connect. Wi-Fi Direct gives you the ability to see what you have to connect to. Kind of like Bluetooth, but it does it faster and with less power consumption. That means more battery life and more 360 content!
There’s another benefit to Wi-Fi Direct. You don’t need to have an internet connection to be able to communicate between devices. All you need are two devices that are capable of connecting in a Wi-Fi Direct method and you’re ready to go.
That aspect is going to let you be out in the middle of nowhere, where no cell signal, no internet connection, nothing of that sort has ever been able to reach and your 360Penguin will talk to your smart device to be able to give you everything you need to record some amazing content.
In a deer stand out in the middle of the forest? You can connect.
Live in a valley that’s always been a cellphone dead zone? Not a problem.

Privacy of Your Connection
Are you concerned with privacy of your devices? Who isn’t? We don’t want you to be vulnerable to hacking or some kind of cyber intrusion. That’s another great feature of Wi-Fi Direct. You have a secure connection. You actually have to have a password to be able to connect and sign in to make the signal go through. We give you the password and you can change it at any time.
That’s why the 360Penguin uses Wi-Fi Direct. Your battery life is better. You have a solid connection anywhere. No need for an internet connection. Your connection is secure.
