The 360SeaDak is a professional underwater 360 video camera system utilizing KODAK PIXPRO SP360 4K cameras. With an output resolution of 4K (4,000 x 2,000) and a 130 meter crush depth rating (suggested 30% buffer for safety), it is the industry’s most versatile and user friendly solution for underwater 360 video.
360RIZE patented underwater camera systems are trusted by the U.S. Navy, NOAA, TIME Magazine, conservationists and award-winning cinematographers for capturing spherical content underwater. Over the course of the past 3 years, 360RIZE underwater spherical video technology has helped hundreds of filmmakers, oceanographers and educators document and share our planet’s aquatic environments.
The 360SeaDak positions two KODAK PIXPRO SP360 4K cameras in a spherical orientation to capture fully spherical 360 x 180 degree 360 video content. The individual videos from each camera can then be stitched together using post production software to create 360° videos.
It’s exciting to be able to offer the consumer and pro-consumer a powerful underwater camera housing for high quality 360 video. The 360SeaDak housing is intended to be economical and priced for the consumer with professional, crystal clear spherical film quality.” – 360RIZE CEO Michael Kintner
360SeaDak Optics: Correcting Lens Distortion
360RIZE has solved the issue all multi-camera 360 video rigs face underwater: image distortion. When a camera is submerged underwater, it loses approximately 30 degrees of its field of view (FOV) due to light bending as it passes through water. This presents a huge issue as the frame overlap between each camera in a 360 rig is greatly reduced underwater, making it impossible to have enough coverage to stitch a seamless 360 video.
The domes on the 360SeaDak correct this lens distortion and provide a crystal clear image for both cameras in the configuration while underwater. Achieving a seamless stitch underwater is a known challenge with two-camera or two-lens 360 video systems. Even spherical camera rigs with 180-degree lenses (i.e. the KODAK PIXPRO SP360) lose FOV while submerged, creating gaps, or seams in the footage around the center of the unit where the two cameras meet. The 360SeaDak assembly’s unique optical domes are specifically designed to solve this issue for two-lens camera systems. By preserving the camera’s FOV underwater and correcting lens distortion, the dome’s unique design allows the image overlap between two cameras to be the same above water as it is below. The end result is a seamless, crystal clear 360 video with the same quality that can be achieved above water with the KODAK PIXPRO SP360.
Camera Control Underwater
The 360SeaDak dive housing gives divers complete camera control underwater via a series of external buttons on the housing. Four external, waterproof buttons line each side of the unit to correspond the controls on each camera. These controls allow users to turn both cameras on/off and to start/stop recording while underwater. This makes it possible to conserve battery life and to capture multiple takes on the same dive.
Post-Production
Footage filmed with the 360SeaDak can be stitched with the PixPro Desktop Editing software (free download with camera purchase) as well as third party stitching solutions such as Kolor Autopano Video.
